Step-by-step guide


These are the recommended exam settings when setting up a 'Quiz' activity in Moodle for on and off campus. Every quiz will require it's own unique settings, see Example 1 and Example 2

Timing

Each quiz will have a different setting for 'Open the quiz', 'Close the quiz', and 'Time limit' be sure to enter your timing. The recommended setting to set is 'When time expires' and change to 'Open attempts are submitted automatically'. This should be the default setting.

Grade

The recommended setting's to set are 'Grade to pass', change this to a '76.00', and 'Attempts allowed', change this one to '1'

Layout

The recommended setting's to set are 'New page', change this to a 'Every question', and 'Navigation method', change this one to 'Free'. These should be default.

Question behavior

The recommended setting's to set are 'Shuffle within questions', change this to a 'Yes', and 'How questions behave', change this to 'Deferred feedback' if you want partial credit for multiple answers or change to 'Deferred feedback (all or nothing)' if you want them to select all answers correctly to get it right. These should be default.

Review options

The recommended setting's to set are 'During the attempt',  'Immediately after the attempt', 'Later, while the quiz is still open', and 'After the quiz is closed'. These should be default.

Extra restrictions on attempts (On-campus)

The recommended setting's to set are 'Browser security', change this to 'Full screen pop-up with some Javascript security', and 'Allowed locations', you will check locations where the exam will be given.

Extra restrictions on attempts (Off-campus)

The recommended setting's to set are 'Browser security', change this to 'Browser security should be set through the Lockdown Browser Dashboard'.

Example 1 (On-campus): A quiz/exam with a 60 minute time limit and allows a 30 minute review session before it is closed.

  • Timing (Quiz open and close dates set with a time limit, remember to pad your times for a review session)

  •  Review Options (Only allows the quiz to be reviewed after everyone has finished, within the given open/close time)

  • Extra restrictions on attempts  (Requires the user to be in the specified location, 010 and 113 and the Library Testing Cubicle)


Example 2 (Off-campus): A quiz/exam with a 60 minute time limit and allows a 30 minute review session before it is closed.

  • Timing (Quiz open and close dates set with a time limit)

  •  Review Options (Only allows the quiz to be reviewed after everyone has finished, within the given open/close time)

  • Extra restrictions on attempts (Password added and requires LockDown Browser)


User Overrides

Click on the exam that needs a user override

Click on the gear and select 'User Override'


Click on 'Add user override'

Search for student and edit the date/time limit/attempts. Click 'Save'
